Interviewing Customers: Third Time's The Charm!

Hi Folks,

So here's the third round of interviewing customers for my business venture. The videos are post below! Also, if any video can't be viewed for any reason, please PLEASE comment saying that you can't view them. I had trouble with the last batch of videos I posted so if you could let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

Strategy:
The strategy I used for my interviews to try and make them as unbiased as possible by saying I was going to interview them for a class and I wanted their honest first reactions to a business venture. I really tried to not give them too much information so that I wouldn't change any of their responses. I wanted to hear what issues people had with this idea. I feel like a lot of entrepreneurs think they have great ideas and don't ever ask potential customers what issues they could foresee with the idea. I asked younger people who could possibly be in the situation I describe to them in which they would need this service.

Reflection:
I got a lot of "this is a good idea" reactions from people, which is nice but overall not really helpful in finding the kinks in this idea. I'm really glad that the people I talked to thought my idea was cool and would actually help people but I was surprised that I didn't get more people who were doubtful that I could actually do this service. I don't know how to code or really how the internet works! Maybe my enthusiasm for the idea influenced what people though. Though I really tried to not be biased... I think I should change the people I'm talking to for any future interviews. I still haven't interviewed anyone who's actually been in the position to need my venture's services so I think that I should definitely do that before I proceed with my idea.

  1. I love your idea Cassie. I ran into the same issue with attempting to get people to really open up about their thoughts on my business idea. I tried explaining it verbally which did draw some feedback. I would really encourage you to look into this further because I think there is a need. If the revenge sites are popping up more often, there should be a something or company in place to combat it in advance. I suggest considering employing hackers. Just a thought. Yes it would be nice to ensure this is not the first site encountered from a google search, but even better if you can find a way to remove it completely.

Here is the link to my post and keep investigating this subject:http://sonjasevolution.blogspot.com/2016/02/customer-interviews-no-3.html

  2. I love how well thought out you are and how you tried to do this scientifically ... without bias. I think your approach was dead on, but perhaps your questions need to be structured so you get more in-depth responses? Great job and feel free to check out my blog at http://ufclassblog.blogspot.com.

  3. Hey Cassie, I am completely shocked that this idea hasn't already come about. I think it is something very necessary and I applaud you for trying to help others who suffer from these type of revenge acts. Just a tip, maybe in the post explain your concept or venture because a lot of people may not have seen your previous posts, like myself, and may feel lost as to what the interviews are referring to. Even though one of your interviews was slightly long, I enjoyed it because you got a conversation going and discussing the pros and cons, which I find much better then robotic answers! I hope you keep trying to develop this idea. I unfortunately did not do round 3 interviews but I will post my link for round 2 and let me know what you think! http://lovetravellives.blogspot.com/2016/02/interviewing-customers-no-2-technically.html

  4. Hey i think your idea of this is great. I have the same problem when i interview people and i wonder if they just support my idea because I'm face to face with them. The fact that you made it neutral for the and said ti was for a class really makes them want to say what they're thinking and not something you want to hear. Great job. 5. Hey Cassie,
I really enjoyed watching your interviews and I believe there is a market for this, I've never heard of anything like it. It can be hard to get people to open up, especially when they're being filmed. Searching for unbiased opinions is pretty tough nowadays because no one wants to sound rude to your face about the business venture you're presenting them with. I think that perhaps next time you could come up with deeper questions in order to avoid the same reaction from everyone where they simply say they think its a "cool idea" and then kind of end it at that. With deeper questions their answers might change up and they may be able to give you more detail on their opinion. 6. Asking open questions and stepping back from leading them is a great strategy for getting unexpected responses -- and those lead you to the most interesting places! Your potential customers might volunteer suggestions or feedback you didn't anticipate if you don't lead them to a conclusion... plus you're getting a more realistic idea of the consumer base reaction.

    Great job and good luck!!

  7. I love your idea and how you went about your interviews. I think you were getting an unbiased response which is key to product development. When you do have a more concrete business platform I would continue to go out and interview strangers to see what they think that way you can get some good feedback. Keep up the good work.

  8. Hi Cassie! First of all, I think this is a very interesting idea. You chose a very awkward topic to ask strangers and I'm glad you approached your interviews in the method you did. I think that method is what led to such good responses, but I agree that if the interviewees had given more criticism than you could more easily expand on the idea.

I also didn't finish my 3rd round of interviews, but here's a link to my 2nd round:

  9. Hey Cassandra!

Wow, I love how you almost lied to the customers trying not to reveal the business idea. This is really smart and out of the box idea so that is a good trait to have in being an entrepreneur. I didn't read further into your blog to figure out what your actual idea is but from what I can tell it sounds like something that could be successful.
I didn't do my third interviews otherwise I would share the link.
